Background:
Shawn was born in Alexandria, Virginia, and grew up in many different places across the country, including Los Angeles, CA, Cedar City, UT, Seattle, WA, and Anchorage, AK. He spent his formative years in Anchorage, where he graduated from Robert Service High School. In high school, Shawn was an athlete and a musician. He wrestled, ran track, competed as a gymnast, and played the saxophone in the jazz band. Shawn was an Alaska state champion “all around” gymnast and a two time Northwestern United States regional champion on the pommel horse.
After high school, Shawn attended the University of New Mexico, where he was a walkon for the track team in his freshman year. Prior to graduating from UNM with a degree in political science, Shawn worked as a licensed insurance agent and insurance producer. In 2002, Shawn earned a designation as a Certified Insurance Counselor. Shawn worked as an insurance agent for seven years before he entered law school.
In law school, Shawn was a member of the ABA Moot Court team that traveled to Washington D.C. to compete against other law schools in a regional tournament. Shawn was also a law school member of the NM State Bar’s Lawyer’s Professional Liability and Insurance Committee.
Shawn is a marathon runner and ultra-marathon runner and has finished numerous races across the country, including the Boston Marathon, the San Francisco Marathon, and the Leadville Trail 100 “The Race Across the Sky.”
